How Important Is Unity?

How important is it for Christians to get along? I mean, how critical is it for God-loving, bible- believing, gospel-centered people to love one another, to fellowship together, and to be unified in the truth? Is it essential or is it optional?

Well, I think that we get our answer in Jesus’ high priestly prayer just hours before His crucifixion. In John 17:20-21, He prays, “I do not ask for these only (the disciples), but I also ask for those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in Me, and I in you, that they may also be in us, so that the world may believe that you sent Me.” In the next verse, He prays “that they may be perfectly one.” So how important is it for believers in the Lord Jesus Christ to get along and to be unified? It’s essential. I mean, who would ever want to hear more about the love of Jesus, when there’s no love to be found between those to claim to follow Jesus. So let’s be all the more diligent to love one another well so that the world might believe in Him.

Something to think about from the Proclamation point of view.
