2 Samuel 7:12-16; Matthew 2:1-12

Sermon Theme: The Old Testament is filled with anticipation of a coming Son and an eternal King, who will establish a Kingdom that will never end. The birth of Jesus Christ is the arrival of that Son and King and is met with two very different responses, one of hatred and one of worship!

I. Anticipation of a Son (Old Tesament)
  A. Glorious Declaration (2 Samuel 7:12-16)
  B. Growing Description (Old Testament)
    1. Adam, An Established King (Genesis 2:18-20)
    2. Prophets, A Lowly Shepherd King (Micah 5:2)

II. Arrival of a Son (Matthew 2:1-12)
  A. Consider the Kings (Matthew 2:1-6)
    1. Herod: Made King of the Jews
    2. Jesus: Born King of the Jews
  B. Compare the Responses (Matthew 2:7-12)
    1. Herod: Rejecting the True King
    2. Religious Leaders: Neglecting the True King
    3. Magi: Worshipping the True King

III. Adoration of a Son (Application)
  A. Prepare to Worship the One True King
  B. Protect from Worshipping Counterfeit Kings
  C. Present Your Treasures Before the King
